Turkey has pledge to undertake vigorous exercise in which it will train Somali soldiers and special units.
This move is intended to strengthen the Somali National Army
so that the government can secure the country and perform its responsibilities
in the best way possible within the next 4 years.
Turkish President, Abdullahi Gull made the announcements in Ankara
where he is hosting his Somalia counterpart, Hassan Sheikh Mahamoud.
President Gull said that Turkish Special forces will train
Somali soldiers and equip them with world class skills.
He said that Somalia needs properly trained army and a well
functioning security apparatus so as to achieve a lasting peace and stability.
This will also remove the over-reliance on foreign forces in
providing security in the country.
Plans are already underway to transfer hundreds of soldiers
to Turkey to undergo fresh training.
As such, Abdullahi Gull requested from the International
Community to support its initiative of training Somali forces.
Turkey has also promised to step up its financial aid and development
projects in the country.
Turkey is a close ally of Somalia and it has already initiated
development projects and delivered financial aid to the war-torn country.
